What You Need To Know About Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a painful foot condition that affects 2 million people annually, accounts for 15% of all foot pain, and causes 9% of running injuries.

It is caused by chronic low-grade inflammation of the plantar fascia, the webby but strong ligament that runs from the heel to the front of the foot. The plantar fascia is an integral part of everyday movement and protects the foot arch. When it’s damaged by oxidative stress and a heavy mechanical load, pain, and compromised foot health result.

When the plantar fascia degenerates, the entire foot structure is compromised, and the pain can be excruciating, especially first thing in the morning or after extended rest periods.

Today, we’re exploring ways to prevent and treat this painful and often debilitating condition, including natural remedies.

Plantar Fasciitis Risk Factors

Age – Men and women ages 40-60 are at a greater risk. They are usually still working, active, and on their feet for extended periods. Those with flat or high arches are also prone to this condition.

Runners –  Running can strain the plantar fascia over time due to repetitive movement, overuse, tight muscles, and repeated pounding on hard surfaces or uneven terrain.

Improper Footwear – Shoes with inadequate arch support and poor fit can harm the plantar fascia, causing it to become overstretched and inflamed. Tight shoes compress the foot and restrict natural movement, while loose shoes allow excessive foot movement, resulting in instability and strain.

Extra Weight—Carrying extra weight caused by obesity or pregnancy can trigger plantar fasciitis and cause increased stress and strain on the plantar fascia, which supports the body’s weight during standing, walking, and other weight-bearing activities.

THE BEST SUPPLEMENTS TO RELIEVE PLANTAR FASCIITIS PAIN

IT’S EASY TO GET STUCK IN OLD WAYS OF LIVING. IT’S TIME TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE NEW WAYS OF HEALING.

TART CHERRY EXTRACT

Reducing inflammation is a crucial step in managing plantar fasciitis pain. Tart Cherry Extract is a natural and effective alternative to NSAIDs. It is a potent antioxidant that fights inflammation on a cellular level and equips the body to combat pain and swelling.

WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT STEPS FOR EASING PLANTAR FASCIITIS PAIN?

AT WELL THEORY, OUR GOAL IS TO HELP YOU CURATE A LIFE LIVED WELL – IN A LASTING, HOLISTIC WAY.

1. Choose Proper Footwear

Proper footwear helps alleviate plantar fasciitis pain by providing optimal arch support, cushioning, and stability. This reduces strain on the plantar fascia, absorbs shock, and promotes proper foot alignment. Avoid “squishy” shoes, those with memory foam or high heels. Choose a firm, supportive sole to aid in healing and ward off further injury.

2. Anti-inflammatory Diet

Minimizing oxidative stress and chronic low-grade inflammation is key to easing plantar fasciitis pain. A diet rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals, such as The Mediterranean Diet, touts fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and healthy fats like olive oil.

3. Quality Sleep

Consistent restorative sleep enhances overall well-being, reduces stress, and increases pain tolerance, promotes tissue repair, and reduces inflammation. Adequate rest allows the body to heal micro-tears in the plantar fascia, easing discomfort.

4. Stretching

Stretching can help alleviate pain by improving flexibility in the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, and calf muscles. Gentle stretching helps correct muscle imbalances and reduce inflammation by boosting blood flow and aiding healing. Try these targeted stretches and roll a frozen water bottle under your feet afterward to calm soreness.

5. The Healing Sole

A recovery shoe designed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Meredith Warner with a firm, supportive sole, metatarsal bar, and rocker heel to help your body repair itself. Discover a natural remedy for plantar fasciitis and an effective, top-rated alternative to painful steroid injections, which result in bone loss, cartilage damage, and rupture of fascia.
