Complimentary, Alternative, Or Integrative Health: Our Approach

Complimentary, Alternative, Or Integrative Health: Our Approach
April 22, 2022EducationMedical Articles
Healthcare providers in the United States, for the most part, offer the same type of conventional medicine. However, there are increasing more and more healthcare providers providing nonconventional health care recommendations to their patients. But where does Warner Orthopedics & Wellness fall?

Complementary VS Alternative

Complementary medical care is when non-mainstream medicine is used together with conventional modern medicine. The two complement each other. This is the best way to approach human health and wellness.

Another term for this type of health care is “whole-person health.”

The patient’s nutritional, psychological, and physical health are taken into consideration when developing a treatment plan.

Alternative medical care is when non-mainstream medicine is used in place of conventional modern medicine.

A 2012 national survey reported that more than 30% of adults and about 12% of children use some form of non-conventional health care that has origins outside of modern Western medical practice.

What Is Integrative Health

Integrative Health or functional medicine uses both conventional and alternative medicine in various combinations determined by the individual patients’ health needs and wants. An integrative healthcare provider will prescribe medication, physical therapy, and other traditional Western medicine procedures along with nonconventional medical recommendations like acupuncture, yoga, and natural supplements after extensive evaluations and consultations with patients. Many Integrative practitioners will also delve more deeply into an individual’s allergic profile, gut biome and blood type. Dr. Andrew Weil is usually considered one of the ‘fathers’ of the concept of integrative medicine.

What We Do At Warner Orthopedics & Wellness

Dr. Meredith Warner believes in promoting full-body health with her patients. She blends modern Western medicine with her extensive knowledge of the body and how natural medicine can help the body heal and function with less pain.  Dr. Warner believes that no orthopedic condition can be successfully and completely managed without a deep understanding of the total person and correcting all of what led to the problem.  We practice complementary, holistic and whole body care of an individual with a special emphasis on the musculoskeletal manifestations of one’s health.

Dr. Warner is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon who focuses on providing non-invasive treatment options to her patients first and foremost. Her commitment to offering the best care possible prompted her to invent The Healing Sole for non-invasive relief to plantar fasciitis as well as create Well Theory, her line of wellness supplements, multivitamins, and topicals, to improve overall health and wellness and to hopefully lengthen the healthspan!
