Most Common surgeries

Warner Orthopedics specializes in various types of surgeries, ranging from minor ailments to complex surgeries. Among the most commonly performed surgeries are bunion surgery, Achilles surgery, ankle replacement, nerve release for chronic pain, diabetic wound surgery and foot reconstruction, and peripheral nerve stimulators.

Bunion surgery is one of the most common surgeries performed by Dr. Warner. The surgical procedure involves the removal of the bony bump at the base of the big toe, which can be painful and cause problems with mobility. There are two different types of surgeries for bunions, osteotomy and lapiplasty.  Dr. Warner performs both osteotomy and lapiplasty and Dr. Lindow performs lapiplasty.

How to Prepare for Surgery

Oxidative Stress 101 - Brain Fog

Stress relief

Preparing mentally and emotionally for surgery can look different for everyone. One of the best ways to overcome anxiety related to any procedure is by asking questions and going over the procedure with your medical team. You can also read our guide on Stress Control on additional ways to reduce anxiety.

Upset Stomach

diet

Before surgery, your diet should focus on nutrient dense foods that provide plenty of vitamins and minerals. If you’re not sure where to start, you can always look at the Mediterranean Diet  for guidance.

The diet focuses on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, healthy fats, fish and seafood. This deters you from eating inflammatory, processed foods that are high in sugar and unhealthy fats.

Immunity

Increase your immunity

Building up your immune system helps as well. Get plenty of sleep and consider taking vitamin D3, zinc, Vitamin C and herbs such as elderberry, garlic, pine bark and schisandra can help as well. Consider Dr. Warner’s Connective Tissue Multi and/or the Daily Immune Support.

prepare the home

If you are having surgery that will reduce your mobility, remove all loose area rugs and position furniture to allow for crutches, walkers or knee rollers. Make sure you have all the medical equipment needed for your house prior to surgery if possible.

AT WARNER ORTHOPEDICS & WELLNESS, OUR GOAL IS TO GIVE YOU THE TOOLS YOU NEED TO ACHIEVE YOUR DIET & EXERCISE GOALS!

1. Lapiplasty

Lapiplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that involves making three small incisions around the foot and using specialized instrumentation to realign the bones in the affected area. The procedure differs from traditional bunion surgery in that it corrects the bunion defect in three dimensions, rather than just shaving off the bony bump. This results in a more stable and functional joint, which can reduce the risk of bunion recurrence and postoperative pain. Lapiplasty is considered a relatively new technique in the field of foot and ankle surgery.

2. Osteotomy

Osteotomy is a surgical procedure in which a bone is cut and repositioned to improve its alignment or correct a deformity. It is commonly used in orthopedic surgery to treat conditions such as arthritis. The procedure may involve cutting the bone and then repositioning it with plates, screws, or other hardware, or removing a wedge-shaped piece of bone to change the bone’s alignment. Osteotomy is typically performed under general anesthesia and may require a period of immobilization and physical therapy for optimal healing and recovery.

3. Achilles

Achilles surgery is conducted to alleviate pain and inflammation of the Achilles tendon. The tendon connects the calf muscles to the heel and plays a crucial role in movement. Achilles surgery is recommended when conservative treatments such as physical therapy and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications have failed.

4. Ankle Replacement

Ankle replacement is another common procedure performed by Dr. Warner. This surgical procedure replaces the damaged ankle joint with an artificial joint or prosthesis. Ankle replacement is often recommended for patients with severe arthritis or multiple joint issues.

5. diabetic foot reconstruction

Diabetic foot reconstruction, also known as wound surgery, is performed on diabetic patients who have chronic wounds or ulcers on their feet. The surgery involves the removal of damaged tissue or bone and reconstruction of the foot to promote healing and prevent future injuries.

6. Nerve release surgery

Nerve release surgery for chronic pain is a surgical procedure involving the release of a compressed or pinched nerve, which can cause severe and persistent pain. The goal of this surgery is to remove or alleviate the pain caused by the compressed nerve.

7. Peripheral nerve stimulator

Peripheral nerve stimulator is another commonly performed procedure where stimulators are implanted under the skin to treat chronic pain and other nerve-related disorders. The device delivers electrical impulses to the affected peripheral nerves, which can reduce pain and improve mobility.
