3D BUNION CORRECTION WITH LAPIPLASTY

Lapiplasty is different from the more traditional bunion surgery, during which the bone in the big toe is cut in half so that the top portion of the toe can be shifted over. While this reduces the appearance of the bunion, it does not address the unstable joint at the midfoot, which is the root cause of this particular condition.

The lapiplasty procedure is designed to shift and correct the rotation of the deviated bone. By addressing the problem near the apex of the arch, the correction may be more effective. In this procedure, your bunion will disappear, not because it focuses on reducing the appearance of the bunion like traditional bunion surgery, but because the root cause of the problem is addressed.

After the joint has been corrected, titanium plates are installed to ensure that the joint does not deviate again. Likewise, the fixation placement and materials allow for weight-bearing within a week of surgery. The recovery is predictable and much more convenient than most types of procedures.

Treat The Root Cause of Your Bunion

This is the first and only treatment that corrects all facets of bunion deformity. Lapiplasty treats the three dimensions of deformity to correct the bunion and prevent other conditions including arthritis and hammertoes

Restores your natural anatomy before the formation of your bunion

Bunions can cause a 3-factor deformity in the foot: a sideways lean, an upward elevation, and an outward rotation.  Lapiplasty restablizes and realigns the bone causing the bunion deformity

when you should see a doctor about your bunion

AT WARNER ORTHOPEDICS & WELLNESS, OUR GOAL IS TO GIVE YOU THE TOOLS YOU NEED TO MAKE THE BEST DECISIONS FOR YOUR HEALTH!

1. difficulty walking

If you’re having difficulty walking due to pain from your bunion, it may be time to see a doctor.  When you have pain walking, many people adjust their gait and balance to compensate. Adapting your stride to accommodate a bunion changes your balance and increases your risk of falls.

Bunions - Difficulty Walking

2. lack of movement in the big toe

Hallux limitus affects the joint between the big toe and the foot, making the area inflexible and causing pain when you walk. As the condition progresses, it can lead to arthritis and bone spurs. Symptoms include a bony lump on the top of the big toe, numbness or tingling if the bone spurs press on a nerve, and a callus building up under the joint.

Bunions - Big Toe Pain

3. inflammation or redness in toe joints

Symptoms of bunions often develop where the first and second toes rub against each other.

The pain gets worse as extra bone grows or a fluid-filled sac develops at the base of your big toe. Redness or inflammation (swelling) can indicate infection.

4. Persistent foot pain or pain in your big toe

A bunion is most likely to develop when susceptible feet are repeatedly squeezed into narrow, pointed-toe footwear.  If you’re experiencing irritation, tenderness, or join paint on your big toe you may have a painful bunion, and it’s time to make an appointment.

5. difficulty finding shoes that fit properly

Bunions are notoriously uncomfortable and can interfere with normal physical activities such as walking or exercising. If your bunion is more severe to the point you’re having trouble finding shoes that fit properly, it’s time to see your doctor.
