Dressings help protect a wound—but they don’t fix why it formed (pressure points, deformity, infection, perfusion issues, neuropathy).

Without root-cause correction, ulcers often recur—keeping you in a cycle of visits.

Who we help

  • Veterans with diabetes + recurrent foot ulcers
  • Charcot foot or deformity causing pressure points
  • Persistent or worsening wounds despite regular dressings
  • Suspected infection or high risk for amputation (seek care promptly). Warner Orthopedics

What “true healing” means here

  • Close the wound and address the cause
  • Aim for early function and long-term durability—so ulcers are far less likely to return
  • Education + footwear planning for daily prevention (what to watch, when to call)

4 Common Causes Of Diabetic Wounds

Nerve Pain 101 - Diabetes

HIGH BLOOD SUGAR

High glucose levels can damage blood vessels, nerves and organs. Even a mildly raised glucose level that doesn’t cause any symptoms can have long-term damaging effects.

Diabetic Blood Circulation

POOR CIRCULATION

High blood glucose levels cause fatty deposits to form inside blood vessels. Over time, these deposits make your blood vessels narrow and hard, lessening blood flow.

Diabetes 101 - High Blood Sugar

NERVE DAMAGE

Over time, high blood sugar can damage the blood vessels that supply the nerves in your body. This stops essential nutrients reaching the nerves. As a result, the nerve fibers can become damaged, and may disappear.

Immunity

POOR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Having diabetes isn’t what makes someone’s immune system weaker, but chronic high blood sugars and out-of-range numbers can weaken the immune system, leaving people more susceptible to illness and complications from illnesses.

WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT STEPS FOR AVOIDING DIABETIC WOUNDS?

AT WARNER ORTHOPEDICS & WELLNESS, OUR GOAL IS TO GIVE YOU THE TOOLS YOU NEED TO ACHIEVE YOUR DIET & EXERCISE GOALS!

1. Manage Your Diabeties

Keep track of your blood sugar levels to see what makes them go up or down and monitor them regularly with a blood glucose  meter. It’s important to keep your blood sugar levels in your target range as much as possible to help prevent or delay long-term, serious health problems, such as heart disease, vision loss, and kidney disease. Staying in your target range can also help improve your energy and mood.

2. Inspect Your Feet Daily

Check your feet every day for cuts, blisters, red spots, and swelling. Call your health care team right away about any sores that do not go away.

Wash your feet every day in warm (not hot) water. Don’t soak your feet. Dry your feet completely and apply lotion to the top and bottom—but not between your toes, which could lead to infection.

4. Protect Your Feet from Infection

Always wear shoes that fit well and socks or slippers, even inside, to avoid injury.

Trim your toenails straight across and gently smooth any sharp edges with a nail file. Have your foot doctor (podiatrist) trim your toenails if you can’t see or reach your feet.

Don’t remove corns or calluses yourself, and especially don’t use over-the-counter products to remove them—they could burn your skin.

5. Supplement Your Diet

If you have complications from diabetes, some supplements like resveratrol and omega-3 fatty acids (which are both included in The Well Theory Nervous System Multi) may help with symptoms or delay the progression of complications related to diabetes.
