Medical Marijuana VS CBD

Medical Marijuana VS CBD
August 27, 2021EducationMedical Articles

Medical Marijuana and CBD are derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. Both are types of cannabinoids that interact with our human Endocannabinoid System to offer pain relief, anxiety symptom management, and many other benefits.

What Is Medical Marijuana?

There are many medical professionals including – Dr. Meredith Warner – promoting the use of medical marijuana as an alternative to the often overprescribed and highly addictive opioid painkillers.

Medical Marijuana is the same as recreational marijuana in that it contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the compound in marijuana known for its psychotropic effect. THC causes a feeling of being “high.”

THC is but one of over 100 active cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. In a medical setting, marijuana can be prescribed to individuals who can benefit from its therapeutic effects.

Those that are prescribed Medical Marijuana will have to deal with moderate psychotropic side effects. Medical marijuana is tested and regulated and is a safer option than marijuana found on the black market.

THC in Medical Marijuana has proven anti-inflammatory, chronic pain reducing, anti-nausea, and sleep aid properties.

Medical Marijuana interacts with receptors in the body to change normal neurotransmission. This ability helps in reducing pain signals and inflammatory responses.

What Is CBD?

CBD or cannabidiol is another cannabinoid compound extracted from the Cannabis sativa plant. It interacts a little differently in the body when compared to all the cannabinoids found in Medical Marijuana. CBD is a non-psychotropic cannabinoid. It won’t make you feel high.

CBD is found in lower amounts in medical marijuana. Usually, CBD is sold as a product in and of itself. CBD products are created with a concentration of CBD as full spectrum CBD, broad spectrum CBD, or CBD isolate. These CBD products are FDA cleared for over-the-counter sale with THC levels of 0.3% or lower.

CBD is also able to reduce pain, inflammation, and anxiety. CBD is a great alternative for those looking to get the medical benefits that the Cannabis sativa plant can provide without the psychoactive effects.

Is One Better Than The Other?

Both Medical Marijuana and CBD have wellness and health benefits and are considered safe and effective supplements by many scientists and could be wonderful additions to your current treatments for chronic pain, inflammation, and other conditions. CBD is typically more readily available for purchase.

If you are not able to be approved for Medical Marijuana for your condition or symptoms, CBD may be able to help you!
