Why Should I See An Orthopedic Surgeon?

Why Should I See An Orthopedic Surgeon?

What Is An Orthopedic Surgeon

An orthopedic surgeon is a doctor that is specialized in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Musculoskeletal conditions include those that affect muscles, nerves, bones, joints, and connective tissue. A good orthopedic surgeon will understand the underlying physiology and metabolic pathways that affect the structure of the body as well.

Common Conditions Orthopedic Surgeons Treat

Some common musculoskeletal conditions that Orthopedic Surgeons treat include arthritis, bursitis, osteoporosis, and chronic pain (knee pain, hip pain, joint pain, and muscle pain).

Orthopedic surgeons treat people of all ages and sizes for a large range of conditions. The conditions that orthopedic surgeons treat can range from genetic-related, to age-related, or injury-related. Maybe your kids fell down at basketball practice and tore a ligament in their shoulder or grandma’s bunions are too painful and she needs revision surgery. Both of these patients could see an Orthopedic surgeon! Although the conditions that are treated are varied, the most common reason to present to an orthopedist is because you have pain.

Help You With Surgical & Non-Surgical Treatments

Orthopedic surgeons will evaluate a patient’s overall health and pain to determine an appropriate treatment plan. Treatment plans can include both conservative treatments like the RICE method (rest, ice, compression, elevation) and invasive surgeries.

A common misconception people have about orthopedics surgeons is that their only goal is to treat conditions through surgery because their medical title includes the word surgeon. But that is not reality, a good orthopedic surgeon will help a patient avoid surgery until absolutely necessary. At Warner Orthopedics & Wellness, Dr. Warner offers a variety of treatment options.

  • Physical therapy
  • Revision and primary surgery for orthopedic conditions
  • Podiatry
  • PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), and alpha-2-macroglobulin Injections
  • Medical Marijuana and other methods to treat chronic body pains
  • Aesthetic services with Smooth by Sarah
  • Primary Care services and weight loss assistance
  • And More

While Dr. Meredith Warner’s primary surgical focus is on complex foot and ankle reconstructive surgeries along with most other orthopedic surgeries and pain injections, she is a huge proponent of non-invasive and natural treatments and therapies. Dr. Warner strongly believes in the human body’s ability to repair and heal, with a bit of assistance from physicians. Before jumping to the conclusion of surgery Dr. Warner will help her patients try other forms of treatment first.
